Read to Rover. Children ages 6-11 can build their reading confidence by reading to specially trained therapy dogs at the Greenbelt Library branch at 2 pm.  Each child will read for 15 minutes. Children's Stories & Cooking Demos. "Using produce from the gar­den and orchard, Guild members demonstrate foodways in the depend­ency kitchen. Selections are inspired by the traditional cycles of a 19th cen­tury farm. Our new Seasonal Storytime features children's tales related to what's cookin' in the kitchen! Opening Ceremony Cherry Blossom Festival. "Kick-off the 2013 National Cherry Blossom Festival with local and national entertainment as we welcome springtime to Washington, DC. Guests will experience the story of how the gift of trees has developed into the na­tion’s greatest springtime celebration, as told through a series of traditional and contemporary performances." The even runs from 5-6:30 pm. FREE ad­vance tickets are required. National Cherry Blossom Festival Family Days. This FREE festival is at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. "Celebrate the opening of Washington’s cherry blos­som season at this eighth annual fam­ily festival for kids of all ages featuring hands-on activities, interactive art demonstrations, and performances that celebrate spring and explore Japanese arts and design." The event runs from 10 am to 4 pm.

Mysteries and Histories of the Un­derground Railroad. This lecture will start at 4 pm  at the Surratt House Mu­seum. Author Kate Clifford Larson will discuss tales from the Underground Railroad.  For more information, con­tact the museum, 9118 Brandywine Rd. in Clinton, 301-868-1121.

Movie Screening. The Hyattsville li­brary branch will be screening the film The Visitor. The film is about a “disillu­sioned Connecticut economics profes­sor whose life is transformed by a chance encounter in New York City. Spring Extravaganza ($). Enjoy egg hunts, arts and crafts at this event for children under 12. Pictures can also be taken with the Easter Bunny. The cost is $5 per child and it is located at the Hillcrest Heights Community Center, 2300 Oxon Run Dr. in Temple Hills. For more information, call 301-505-0896.  
Blossom Kite Festival. This FREE event is one of the most popular of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The festival "showcases the creativity of kite makers and skill of kite fliers from across the US and other countries through a variety of competitions and demonstrations including the popular Hot Tricks Showdown and the Rok­kaku Battle. Bring your own kites or children can make a kite at an activity station (while supplies last) to fly on the Public Field." The festival is held on the National Mall.
