Read to Rover. Children ages 6-11 can
build their reading confidence by reading to specially trained therapy dogs at
the Greenbelt Library branch at 2 pm. Each child will read for 15

demonstrate foodways in the dependency kitchen. Selections are inspired by the

Opening Ceremony Cherry
Blossom Festival. "Kick-off the 2013 National
Cherry Blossom Festival with local and national entertainment as we welcome
springtime to Washington, DC. Guests will experience the story of how the gift
of trees has developed into the nation’s greatest springtime celebration, as
told through a series of traditional and contemporary performances." The

National Cherry Blossom
Festival Family Days. This FREE festival is
at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. "Celebrate the opening
of Washington’s cherry blossom season at this eighth annual family festival
for kids of all ages featuring hands-on activities, interactive art
demonstrations, and performances that celebrate spring and explore Japanese
arts and design." The event runs from 10 am to 4 pm.

Mysteries and Histories of the Underground Railroad. This lecture will start at 4 pm at the Surratt House Museum.
Author Kate Clifford Larson will discuss tales from the Underground Railroad.

Movie Screening. The Hyattsville library branch will be screening the film The
Visitor. The film is about a “disillusioned Connecticut economics professor
whose life is transformed by a chance encounter in New York City. The film

Spring
Extravaganza ($). Enjoy egg hunts, arts and crafts at
this event for children under 12. Pictures can also be taken with the Easter
Bunny. The cost is $5 per child and it is located at the Hillcrest Heights

Blossom Kite Festival. This FREE event is one of the most popular of the National Cherry
Blossom Festival. The festival "showcases the creativity of kite makers
and skill of kite fliers from across the US and other countries through a
variety of competitions and demonstrations including the popular Hot Tricks
Showdown and the Rokkaku Battle. Bring your own kites or children can make a
kite at an activity station (while supplies last) to fly on the Public
Field." The festival is held on the National Mall.
